In 1973, at Bell Laboratories, Dennis Ritchie developed C a structured programming language. C language is among the most popular computer languages in today’s world, due to its structure, machine-independent feature, and high-level abstraction. It was developed with UNIX operating system, therefore it’s highly associated with UNIX, as UNIX is one of the most popular network operating systems currently, as well as the heart of the internet data superhighway.
Over the years, the C language has evolved through three different structured languages i.e ALGOL, BCPL, and B Language. C language employed numerous concepts from these languages and introduced new ones like struct, data types, pointer, etc. The ANSI (American National Standard Institute) formalized the C language. Subsequently, in 1990, one of the versions of the C language was approved by the International Standard Organisation(ISO) and the version is referred to as C89.
